STEFANIE SCHWARZWIMMER is an artist and graphic designer based in Berlin and Vienna. Schwarzwimmer is interested in the life and death, the circulation and virality of images. In her work she specifically deals with the speculative potential of 3D renderings, creating computer-generated low-key fiction moments, that appear photographic and therefore somewhat evidential. She mostly builds virtual interiors out of memories, mixed with projections, media imagery, and elements of pop culture, that serve as stages for slightly altered strings of reality.
From 2012–2018 she studied Fine Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna in the department of Art and Digital Media (Constanze Ruhm). Her diploma film ‚Silent Revolution‘ was awarded the Academy’s main prize. In 2017 Schwarzwimmer participated in the Berlin Program for Artists. Recently her work has been presented in places such as Paris (Jeune Création, La Chaufferie, 2020), Copenhagen (DIS presents: What Do People Do All Day?, Kunsthal Charlottenborg, 2020) and Baltimore (A Good Crisis, Baltimore Museum of Art, 2018/19). In May 2021 Schwarzwimmer will attend the Antwerp Art Weekend within a program curated by the artist duo Deborah Bowman, who also run a project space in Brussels that goes by the same name where she will present new works in autumn 2021.
